Lubell, Winifred Milius (American, 1914-2012). HARRIET TUBMAN. Woodcut, 1951. Titled, signed "W. Milius" and dated in pencil. Printed on thin Japanese tissue.18 3/4 x 12 1/4 inches (image); 24 x 17 inches (sheet). Framed to 25 x 32 inches. In very good condition. Winifred Milius Lubell was an artist, writer, and social activist (she was a member of the Communist party until 1956). Her mother was the sister of the theater designer Lee Simonson, and she grew up in a family which had associations and friendships with many of the prominent artists of her time.
