Bishop, Isabel. UNION SQUARE SKETCHES. Pencil on paper, not dated, but likely 1930s, before the re-design of the fountain. Initialed "IB" in pencil. 5 3/16 x 6 1/4 inches. Four separate subjects, as follows: upper left, about 2 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches, lightly sketched, a group of men sit or lie on the step of the Union Square fountain; upper right, In a 1 1/4 x 2 3/4 inch box defined in pencil, three men sit dozing on a bench; this image is well-modeled, a finished drawing in its own right; Bishop's initials are within the box; lower left, 2 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches, a well-delineated male figure lies on a step, his head resting against his crossed hands, and a lightly sketched female figure sits reading on a lower step; lower right, 3 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches, three lightly sketched figures stand near the fountain. Invery good condition, though with some rust-like marks and spots, and a crease at the upper left corner. Framed.
