Corman, Cid. HEARTH. Origin Press, 1968. Edition of 100, of which this is copy number 37, signed in ink on the colophon by Corman. With three etchings created for this book by Ryohei Tanaka, each 4 1/8 x 2 13/16 inches, numbered 37/100 and signed in pencil by Tanaka. Small square octavo, covers in green and gold silk, with paper spine label, Dust Jacket with a cover designed by Tetsuo Yamada, Cardboard slip case, and a mailing folder with Corman's name and address as the sender on one side, and the other side addressed to Georg Rapp of the publishing firm of Rapp & Whiting Ltd. Unpaginated, with endpapers, half-title reading "thirty nine poems and three etchings, frontis etching, Title page, Dedication, the 39 poems, one to a page, two etchings within, and Colophon. A careful and beautiful production, the whole Fine throughout. Sidney (Cid) Corman, 1924-2004, was an American poet and editor. His magazine, "Origins," which introduced and disseminated the work of many American poets, established him as a major figure in American literature of the mid-twentieth century. Ryohei Tanaka, born 1933, is known for his sensitive and detailed etchings of Japanese landscapes and architectural subjects.
