Sloan, John. NUDE WITH CIGARETTE. Morse 49. Etching, 1931. Edition of 100 of which only 70 were printed, 45 by Charles White, and 25 by Ernest Roth. Titled, inscribed "100 proofs," and signed in pencil. Very faint matstain, else in excellent condition. Morse quotes Sloan, writing about this print in 1945, as follows: "The nudes of this period were needled directly on the plate without preliminary studies, and when they achieve results like this I feel that they are of lasting importance. They kind of amaze me nowadays."
