Sloan, John. THE WOMEN'S PAGE. Etching, 1905 (M132). Edition of 100, signed, titled and inscribed "100 Proofs" in pencil, and also signed and inscribed by the printer "Ernest Roth, imp.[old paper]." 100 were printed, of which this is one of 65 printed by Roth on laid paper. From the "New York Life" series. 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches (image), 5 x 6 7/8 inches (plate), 8 3/8 x 11 1/4 inches (sheet). Provenance, The Oresman Collection. In excellent condition. Chosen by Sloan as one of his favorite prints, "perhaps the best all-around example, both in subject matter and treatment." (Sloan quoted by Zigrosser, 1950). "Observation of life in furnished rooms back of my 23rd Street studio inspired many of my paintings and etchings of this period. Done with symapthy but no "social consciousness."
