Of 180 etchings catalogued by Zigrosser, 103 were done by Marin in Europe between 1905 and 1910. Of these, many were not editioned, or exist only as trial proofs. Of the ones which were editioned, the editions are often very small, in many cases under 10, but some were done in editions of 25 to 50 one, the Meaux Cathedral was printed by the Gazette de Beaux Arts in a large edition, probably about 500. All of the European prints are fairly traditional in treating the subjects realistically, but Marin's turn to Modernism is evident in Zigrosser 104, an etching of the Brooklyn Bridge, the first print he did after returning to America in 1911.
