A HISTORY OF THE LIFE AND VOYAGES OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS

Irving, Washington. A HISTORY OF THE LIFE AND VOYAGES OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS. Carvill, NY, 1828 (1st Ed). 3 vols, 8vo., old polished calf. VG but with some browning to pages. Map supplied from another edition and housed in a separate custom wallet. Irving (1783-1859), served in the U.S Embassy in Madrid from 1826 to 1829, during which time he became interested in Spain and published several works including the biography of Columbus. Irving was afforded access to Columbus documents by a descendant, the Duke of Veraguas, and his biography is readable and largely accurate, notwithstanding his adulation of Columbus.
