A stain, probably oil-based affecting the back pages heavily, other pages to a lesser degree, but not touching the mounted plates. Spine faded, beginning to fray at top, and some other spots to cloth. Sounds much worse than it is - overall a most serviceable copy for any purpose but as a gift.
