(Rembrandt) L'OEVRE GRAVE DE REMBRANDT. REPRODUCTIONES DES PLANCHES ORIGINALE DANS TOUS LEURS ETATS SUCCESSIFS. 1000 PHOTOTYPIES SANS RETOUCHES by Dmitri Rovinski. 3 Volumes: 1. The text volume and catalogue raisonne, in three sections. The first section with text in French comprises an essay on Rembrandt with notes; each page is divided into two columns, and the columns are numbered I - LXXXVIII. The second section is the Catalogue Raisonne, also with text in French, and also with the pages divided into two columns (1-188), describing each of 984 states of 375 works cited in the original catalogue by Bartsch, and supplemented with 21 additional works and 17 additional states (total 1001) not in Bartsch, but included in later catalogues. Each of the State numbers correlates to its illustration in the Atlas. The third section is the same as the First, except that the text is in Russian. 2. The Atlas in two folio-sized clamshell- style boxes, without text, with all of the 1001 plates tipped to support sheets, loose, as issued. The Atlas is the "Nouvelle Edition" by Prof. G. Goebel, published in Vienna in 1923. Thus, a marriage of the 1890 text volume and the 1923 Atlas. The text volume with some wear to its spine, the Atlas Boxes with wear, the contents all Fine. OCLC locates numerous copies, but the work is scarce in the marketplace. Like the Kennedy catalogue of Whistler's etchings, with its state illustrations, this work remains a useful reference tool despite new scholarship which has added and revised materials.
