Original wrappers bound into half Morocco and marbled boards. Quarto, with 53pp. text and 16 black & white tissue-guarded and captioned plates by Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel. With the bookplate August Jaccaci, and inscribed to him by Boutet De Monvel. This is a modern retelling of a 15th Century farce about a cloth merchant and a stolen sheep. Some wear to the spine ends and to the front hinge, and foxing to the text and plates thoughout.
Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel (French, 1850-1913) was primarily known as a children's book illustrator of the Belle Epoch period.
August Jaccaci (French 1857-1930) was an art historian, writer, and painter.
