Himalayas - Nepal. CARVED PLAQUE - "FOUR FRIENDS" 15 1/4 X 13 x 1 1/2 inches. Likely 19th Century, and likely a decorative element in a temple. Relief carved panel picturing the "four friends" (an elephant on which sits a monkey, on whose head is a hare, perched on which is a bird), surrounded by plants and flowers, all within an arched enclosure, the top of which is surmounted by further decroation.
