Metalwork. EXQUISITE BRASS AND ENAMEL BOX - BRITISH INDIA. Brass box with elaborately chased designs of peacocks, birds and flowers, decorated with polychrome enamel, the inside lined with cedar, the top slightly domed. 7 x 6 x 2 inches. Stamped on the bottom "Made in/British/India," indicating that it was manufactured no later than 1948, and probably much earlier. The lining suggests that the box is possibly a humidor, though it may have been intended for storage of jewelry or handkerchiefs. Extremely fine materials and workmanship; in excellent condition throughout.
