Pitseolak, Peter (after). MY WIFE AND I. Stoe cut in color, 1974. Edition of 50. Titled, inscribed "Stone Cut" and "dorset," dated, numbered "48/50," and inscribed "after Peter Pitseolak" all in pencil, and with Pitseolak's chop, lower right. 22 x 24 inches (sheet), framed to 24 x 28 inches. In excellent condition. The couple are pictured side by side holding the paraphernalia for ice fishing, she with her baby, and holding a large fish...a strong and appealing image. Peter Pitseolak, 1902-1973, was one of the first generation of indigenous Canadian artists. He is noted for his photographs, sculptures and drawings. The prints signed "after Peter Pitseolak," of which there are many, were made by others from his original drawings. His chop is his approving imprimatur of the work.
