The image is one of several similar poses done at the same time.James Agee (American, 1909-1955) was a poet, novelist, journalist and film critic. His best known work is Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, a book about the effects of the Depression in Alabama. The work grew out of an assignment from Fortune Magazine in 1936 on which he collaborated with the photographer Walker Evans. The work was not published by Fortune, and was put into book form by Agee and Evans, and published in 1941. Considered a masterwork today, the book sold poorly and was remaindered by the publisher.
