Blatherwick, Lily (English, 1854-1934).LAND OF NOD Lithograph, not dated, but circa 1920s. Edition size not known. Signed recto.as both Lily Blatherwick and Mrs. A.S. Hartrick. Inscribed in pencil verso, in the margin, lower left with the number "2", a price that may be 12 shillings, and a further illegible comment, center with the title "land of Nod" and "Litho", and right "to be returned to" and the artist's name and address. 11 3/8 x 7 3/4 inches (image), . 9 1/2 x 11 1/4 inches, (image), 11 1/2 x 16 inches (Stone), 13 x 19 1/2 inches (sheet). An inventory number at the upper right corner, and the word "top" in pencil in the upper margin center, else in excellent condition. One of a group of flower studies done in the 1920s, which are very impressionistic and atmospheric.
Blatherwick was a painter and printmaker. She was born in London, but lived in Scotland, where was a founding member of the RSW (Royal Society of Watercolorists) She exhibited at the Royal Academy and elsewhere from and after 1877. Her prints are in many museum collections, including the British Museum and the Harvard Art Museums.
