Bishop, Isabel. MAN PUTTING ON JACKET. T.55A Etching with aquatint, 1961, printed "for catalogue purposes" in 1985. The artist printed a few proofs in 1961; a few proofs were printed by Sholinsky and signed by Bishop in 1985, but this work was not included in any of the editions which Sholinsky printed for Bishop and Associated American Artists in the 1970s and 1980s, and it is, in either printing, rare. 4 7/8 x 3 inches (sheet); 13 x 9 7/8 inches (sheet). Signed in pencil, and with the chop of the printer Stephen Sholinsky. In excellent condition. Men and women putting on or taking off coats or jackets is a prevailing theme in Bishop's work. There are numerous etchings, from as early as 1929 to as late as 1968, in which this theme is explored. These include Teller numbers 10, 10A, 23, 23A, 28, 31, 32, 37A, 37B, 38, 38A, 46A, 55A, 61, 61A, 63, and 65.
