Unknown Photographer. MEXICO - VILLAGE SCENES - GROUP OF FOUR PHOTOGRAPHS, not dated, but c. 1920s/30s. Each about 13 x 10 or 10 x 13 inches. Each photo is affixed to the top of a mount and framed. Frames bear labels of "H. Chapman Picture Framer, 7 Park Place, Bronxville, NY. Tel Bronx 1398. This early four digit telephone number is the basis for our estimated dating. Some spotting,etc. to the mounts; the photos all in excellent condition.Stamped with the name and the Vera Cruz address of a company (GU__TE_S/Distribudores Kodak/Indep 167 Vera Criuz, and with the name "Robert G. Tolman, Purser" on the verso of the photo, implying that they may have been sold to tourists. Tolman was the Purser on the Morro Castle at the time of the fire which destroyed it in 1934, but that ship did not serve Vera Cruz; an earler ship named Morro Castle was in service from 1900 to the mid-1920s, and was involved in an incident in which it was threatened by Mexican ships in Vera Cruz. Tolman may have served as purser on a ship that serviced Vera Cruz, before becoming Purser of the Morro Castle in the 1930s.
