Native American. NORTHWEST COAST - PAIR OF DANCE PADDLES. 19th - Early 20th Century. Polychromed wood, each 21 inches long and 3 1/4 inches at the widest point. Very finely carved and well painted with "eye" designs in red, green and black. The colors attenuated with age and use, else in excellent condition. These paddles were used in ceremonial dances; this pair evidences sufficient age to suggest that they were made for use, and not for the marketplace.
