Paderewski, Ignace Jan. PHOTOGRAPH OF IGNACE JAN PADEREWSKI WITH FACSIMILE LETTER. A portrait photograph and a photogra[hic facsimile of a letter from Paderewski to H. B. Tremaine dated 1918, framed together. This was very likely a promotional item displayed in stores where player-piano rolls were sold. In 1918 Paderewski's prestige as a virtuoso pianist was at its height, and he was about to be named President of Poland. The letter acknowledges an exclusive contract with Duo-Art to produce music rolls, and in it Paderewski extolls the product as the best of its kind. The portrait is an original photgraphic print; the letter is a photograph of the original letter. The mat should be replaced; the photographs are in very good condition. H. B. Tremaine, whose family founded the Aeolian Piano Co., pioneered the commercial exploitation of the player piano, and the music rolls needed for it.
