Decamps, Alexandre (After). PIERROT PORTANT SON DEJEUNER and PIERROT TROUBLE DANS SON REPAST. Two etchings by Leenhof after paintings by Descamps. Each 11 5/8 x 8 inches; 295 x 203 mm. Published in L'Art, circa 1870-80. In excellent condition, with full margins. Strange and somewhat disturbing works which picture Pierrot as a young man, possibly with Down Syndrome. In the first print, dressed as a comedia dell'arte Pierrot in a white chemise with large tufted buttons hanging loosely over white trousers, he passes through a field of wheat, a windmill behind him, carrying his lunch, including a bottle of wine in a basket over his arm. In the second, while seated against a tree in a clearing in the wood, eating from the basket, he is startled by a hare.
