Publsihed by Frederick Keppel; edition size not known (Per Wiright, Keppel advertized 30 plates on vellum and an unspecified number of "artist's proofs.". Signed in pencil, lower right margin, and also in the plate. 13 x 15 inches (plate), 15 x 16 3/4 inches (sheet). In excellent condition.
At the time of its publication, and in later exhibitions, this work was signled out as among Moran's best:
The Criric. May, 1884: "it is Mr. Moran's most ambitious attempt, and in our judgment, the best thinghe has done with the etcher's needle."
The New York Independent: "...a delicious, restful picture, full of the pastoral spirit and poetry that goes with the artistic conception of that spirit."
The Philadelphia Press: "one of the pieces that has won the artist his great fame as an etcher...[an image that] could not have been produced with more fidelity to nature."
