The price of $2.00 is intact at the top of the DJ's front panel. Pages 293-301 contain brief notes on each of the contributors. An important collection of literary and artistic works by writers and artists of the WPA. The artworks included are all reproductions of Prints. Artists represented are Harold Lehman, J. J. Sanger, Raymond Skolfield, Effim H. Sherman, Hubert Davis, Moses Oley, Jack Markow, Moses Soyer, Esteban Soriano, Mabel Dwight, Eugene Morley, Elizabeth Olds, Ida Abelman, Kyra Markham, Leonard Pytlak, and Fritz Eichenberg. Among the fifty writers are Kenneth Rexroth, Richard Wright, Vardis Fisher, Claude McKay, and Harry Kemp. Fourteen of the selections are transcritions of recordings of oral works. The book is uncommon in the market, and has apparently not been reprinted. Its various stories, poems, essays and artworks offer a very good glimpse into the moods and issues of the period and of the achievements of the WPA in promoting and preserving literature and art.
