Marsh, Reginald. FROZEN CUSTARD. S.183. Etching and engraving, 1939. Second State of two. Edition of only 18, printed by Marsh and signed and titled in pencil. 7 x 10 inches, 178 x 254 mm. (plate), 8 3/8 x 11 inches (sheet). The narrow margins and irregular edges are often seen in works printed by Marsh. Together with STUDY FOR FROZEN CUSTARD, black ink on cigar box wood painted white, presumably also 1939. Signed "R. Marsh," lower right. 6 5/8 x 4 1/4 inches. The study is of the two girls at the right edge of the work, standing under the "Surf Hotel" sign. The Surf Hotel was located in Coney Island, where Marsh did so many of his works. There were no posthumous printings., so as with most of Marsh's prints, this work is scarce.
