Framed to 15 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches. In excellent condition.This print isn't in the catalogue of Avery's prints, but the subject is similar in its theme to a number of his prints. It seems probable that this was a trial proof for a plate that wasn't editioned, and that it was given as a gift. The signature in the plate is consistent with the way he signed his artworks. The signature in cursive in the inscription is consistent with the signatire he used to sign correspondence. A label attached to the frame indicates the piece appeared an earler auction, dated not known; the format and typeface of the label are consistent with that used by Parke-Bernet Galleries befire its acquisition by Sothbeys.
