Sanchez, Emilio (American, born Cuba, 1921-1999). UNTITLED (HOUSE WITH CHILDREN ON THE ROOF). Watercolor on paper, not dated. Signed in pencil, lower right. 29 3/8 x 22 inches. In excellent condition,Sanchez was born into a wealthy Cuban family. He attended private schools in the United States, and went to Yale and the University of Virginia. He also traveled in Europe and South America. In 1944 he attended the Art Students League and also Columbia University, where he studied with Dong Kingman. Paintings, watercolors, and prints of architectutal subjects were a primary subject of his work. He exhibited regularly at galleries in the U.S. and in Latin America, and he is represented in the collections of many major museums. The US Postal Service issued a set of stamps in 2021 to commemorate the Cantennial of his birth, illustrating four of his paintings.
