Sloan, John. ROMANY MARYE IN CHRISTOPHER STREET. Morse 278. Etching, 6" x 8" (152x205 mm). Signed, titled and numbered "100 proofs." (104 printed). Light creasing, else a fine impression in excellent condition. Sloan: Romany Marye was important as one of New York's first real "tea room" hostesses. It would be wrong to call her places tea rooms, but she only sold liquor in the last few years, and then under pressure from a partner. She could attract a lot of artists and writers with her hospitality, kindness and humor. Dolly Sloan spent a lot of time there, but I never went in for tea table conversations."
