ST. MARK'S, VENICE: EXTERIOR

Haig, Axel Herman (Swedish, worked in Sweden and in England; 1835-1921). SAINT MARK'S, VENICE: EXTERIOR. Armstrong, 126. Etching, 1898. 23 1/4 x 32 inches; 591 x 813 mm. Edition of 350 copies. Signed in pencil. The Western facade of St. Mark's church viewed from the Piazza, showing the Campanile and the Ducal Palace. Haig was very adept at rendering architectural and view subjects in large format, and this is a very impressive example of the skill of this still under-appreciated turn-of-the-Century artist.
