Recounting of the efforts by Georgia, in the 18th Century, and later of the United States in the early 19th Century to recover and re-enslave slaves and their descendants who had escaped to Florida while it was still a Spanish possession. Giddings, (1795-1864), was a Congressman from 1838-42, and was censured by the House for his activities in opposition to slavery.
