IN THE LAST DAY THE SEA WILL BE MASTER

Heller, Helen West (American 1872-1955). IN THE LAST DAY THE SEA WILL BE MASTER and its original WOOD BLOCK . Wood-engraving, 1923. The print titled and initialed in the block, and signed in pencil. 3 7/8 x 2 1/2 inches (image), 6 1/2 x 4 5/8 inches (sheet); printed on mulberry paper. In excellent condition; the block, the same dimendions, about one inch thick, in excellent condition. This was Heller's first wood-engraving and the first block she carved.
Heller is quoted about this in the "Time Line and Inventory" at Helenwestheller.com, saying "my first block - often mis-listed as c.1940." The block is unique; the print is rare. Heller blocks are rare, and this one is especially interesting as being her first work in the medium.
