Gorbaty, Norman (American, 1932-2020). THREE TREES. Pen and Bistre Ink Drawing, 1992. Signed and dated in the same ink, lower right. 14 3/4 x 19 1/2 inches (image), 16 x 21 inches (sheet). On a full sheet of cream laid WORTHY watermarked paper. In very good condition.A bold and visceral drawing by Gorbaty, who was equally at home with painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. A student of Gabor Peterdi, Albers and Louis Kahn at Yale, Gorbaty forged a successful career as illustrator and graphic designer while raising a family. He never stopped working. At age 87 after a tragic home & studio fire, he'd begun to work again until his passing in 2020. His deep feeling for both living things and the forces of nature is evident in the decades long series of complex and elegant ink drawings he produced.
