Stamos, Theodoros. (American, 1922-1997) TWO FIGURES. Drawing, 1956. Charcoal and pastel on laid paper. 16 3/4 x 22 inches, signed and dated, lower left. In excellent condition. Framed. Stamos was one of the leaders of the "New York School" of abstract expressionist painters. He exhibited at Marlborough Gallery and at the Meisel Gallery, and had numerous solo shows throughout America and in Europe. His work is in the collections of many museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in NY. This drawing from 1956, is an early work, with representational content rather than abstraction, but is strongly expressionistic in mood.
