Sharrer, Honore Desmond (American, 1920-2009). UNTITLED. Drawing, pencil on paper, 1965. Signed "Sharrer" lower center, tipped to a mount, which is inscribed "My friend Reg,/from Honore/Christmas 65. The drawing 8 x 10 inches, the mount 15 x 20 inches. Very light evidence of adhesive residue at the edges, left and right center, else in excellent condition. Sharrer was included in MOMA's now famous 1946 show "Fourteen Americans," which also featured work by Noguchi, Motherwell, and Steinberg. As happened to so many artists at mid-Century, her work was overwhelmed by the great influence cast on the art world by Abstract Expressionism. In later life she had solo shows, and her work found its way to museums and collections. This is a very assured, spare, and mysterious drawing.
